Live Book Reading Events - Permissions guidelines
Since the lockdown began, we have received many permissions requests from educators and librarians who wish to share read-aloud videos of our books online.
With this in mind, we have decided to allow a temporary open license for online storytimes.
The guidelines:
Educators and librarians may read books published by Child's Play (International) Ltd. aloud and show the illustrations in live videos broadcasted on social media. Please note that the reader must have a physical copy of the book - this permission does not extend to videos which use scans, photos or screenshots of the book.
Where live storytimes are not possible, you may share a pre-recorded video, but please delete it within a week.
The video must be entirely not for profit.
Please include the phrase 'This picture book has been reproduced with kind permission of Child's Play (International) Ltd.' at the start or end of the video. If possible, please also read out the 'text and illustrations' copyright information listed in the front of the book.
Live storytimes only: If a recording of the storytime is made available on the platform afterwards, please delete the video within a week.
If you will be uploading your read-aloud video to Youtube, please select 'Unlisted' in the settings.
If you will be using one of our books in this way, please email office@childs-play.com with the title of the book, a representative's contact details and a description of where and how the video was shared. We would love to hear about it!
Please encourage viewers to consider supporting the authors and illustrators by purchasing a copy of the book and/or leaving a review online.
This temporary open license is effective from now until 31 May 2022. We will monitor the situation and consider extending this period if necessary.
You may wish to direct viewers to the printable activity sheets on our website, which can be found HERE.
If you have any further questions, please contact office@childs-play.com and we will respond as soon as possible.
Thank you for sharing stories with children who need normality at this distressing time, and for respecting our guidelines.
We wish you and your loved ones all the best and we hope that you enjoy performing the books!
